Just For Fun Concerts EP 2016-03

Another installment of the unpredictably scheduled podcast featuring a variety of unheard (not sure that is quite accurate, but oh well) music not played on U.S. radio, at least any radio within range (airwaves or satellite) of ground zero (where I record these shows). So, if you are suffering with insipid repetitive “pop” or what they are marketing as “alternative rock” or “indie” then perhaps these episodes are good palate cleaners, paving the way for you to reconsider the vast amounts of amazing music that deserves to be heard. Success is largely about exposure and so hopefully this cast is a small part in filling that exposure gap. If you consider the music you are force fed daily by commercial radio, then it is my hope that this humble podcast forces you out of your comfort zone – to actively choose to listen to something different (and what I think, and hope you think, is good) and consciously shut the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Coldplays out of your life – forever.

You should know the drill by now, but if you don’t, the cast is 15 songs in whatever time that takes. Here is what you’ll find in Episode #7:

Episode 07 2016-01-30

Just For Fun Concerts EP 2016-02

Snappy. Best way to describe this episode.  Like always, expect the unexpected. If you know me (and most of you don’t) you should probably be aware that I am not too terribly interested into what particular genre a particular piece of music might fall. I like it – I play it. Labeling is a stereotype device that I struggle to overcome. Why? I have recently discovered that I must not make important decisions (such as what type of music I enjoy) based upon unconscious biases that I have. These unconscious biases negatively impact my song selections. That is, my unconscious biases prevent me from identifying and exploring new artists and songs because these cognitive shortcuts quickly and unfairly discard them based upon incomplete and inaccurate information. Now I just try them all. Now you know. Free your subconscious mind to consciously enjoy!

Important note: For those of you whom are sensitive to the repeated use of the F-word, it might be a good idea to skip “Time Traveling” (Track 11), eh?

Here is what you’ll find in Episode #6:

Just For Fun Concerts EP 2016-01

As this is the first podcast episode of 2016, this episode contains a collection of stuff from last year. However, the selections in this playlist are likely subconsciously affected by the passing of both Lemmy from Motorhead and David Bowie. The news of their deaths makes me feel somewhat old, and as I reflect on the cornucopia of interesting music that has stimulated my mind and of which I have enjoyed from both gentleman over the past 4 decades or so, my mood is somewhat askew as I contemplate my own mortality . Further, the impact of both in my life is not found only in their music. Their primary significance lies in their indomitable spirits. They were exemplars of the true punk ideology: take action, following your own muse, live your life by your own design and with a direction and purpose founded upon your own beliefs. What is the measure of a man? They both lived their answer.

Here is what you’ll find in Episode #5 or 2016-01 if you prefer:
