Tales From The Drop Box Episode 191 (2021-03) / The Pandemic Episodes

Another Super Bowl Sunday. I’m not sure I have any skin in the game, but I’ll watch because it is a short attention diversion as I am still trapped inside because I am still trying to avoid crowds and gatherings until such time as we ( the royal societal we) are able to resume some type of safe human interaction with strangers. Even when the pandemic is over, I am not sure how safe we will be with the number of certifiable nut jobs on the loose in this nation. The real time coverage of the ass wipes who attempted the January 6 insurrection in the service of Trump – a repository of all things evil, does not give me much confidence that people will suddenly wake up from this 4 year nightmare saying “what happened? Let’s all be good to one another, right? Why can’t we all just get along? Trump exposed and gave voice to the evil that lies in the heart of man. Combined with a Republican party corrupted to its amoral core willing to accept evil under the “big Republican tent”, I am not sure that we are not headed to a full reckoning involving violence. Well, so that I don’t sound paranoid, let’s hope that I am incorrect and that humanity will course correct and head towards self-actualized positivity as a society rejecting the temptation to divide through arbitrary classification. I would posit that all of divisions are a symptom of an unconscious desire to classify and is so doing the failures of our society are a symptom of the useless need to divide people into the us and them. That is, society has difficult when we try to categorize people in all shapes and manners – race, political affiliation, gender, nationality etc. The disease is classification, the symptoms are the isms.

I’ve been alive for all of the Super Bowl games although I don’t recall any of them until the mid 70’s. So, I believe I have enough experience to spot the ills that interfere with our ability to live together i.e. a part of the whole and yet still retaining individuality. Trumpism is a cult where the individual, the I, is subsumed into the whole – the mass of Trump followers and thereby losing their fucking minds. History will reflect that the power of the masses is so great that the individual mind is lost. This is not a new philosophical construct. It is a pattern oft repeated. So, stop being a fucking follower of evil and retain your individual ability to think for yourself. Now I’m going to step off the soap box….

I’ve tried to capture this week a group of more melodic pop inflected tunes while still throwing in the weird and off beat!

Tales From The Drop Box Episode 184 (2020-32) A New Dawn In America And The End Of The Reign Of Terror /BLM/Pandemic Episodes

President-Elect Biden!!!. Well, I can stop holding my breathe after Biden pulled out a win for democracy. I am truly thankfully that a resounding majority of the American populous decided that decency, honor, truth, and the rule of law were more important than demagoguery, corruption and sociopathic narcissism from a crime family that operated the U.S. for the past four years. I am still markedly disturbed that almost 1/2 of the country voted for that sack of shit masquerading as a human, but hopefully once the stench is removed from the people’s house we can all move forward, find common ground, and operate in the best version of a democratic society. So, to those who voted for Biden – Thank You. For those Republicans who repudiated the former president’s message of hate and lawlessness a big Thank You is also in order.

Given how close the race was in a number of states, it is important to note the importance of every single vote. Every vote counted is a vote for democracy. When every vote is tallied, I am confident that the margins in battleground states will be larger for Biden. This election was a mandate for a different type of presidency. The country is still clearly divided on policy but with a stable individual as president I am hopeful bi-partisanship will be the form of governance. That is, with a unity message from President-Elect Biden, we can now, together, begin to truly confront the issues that are out-of-control in America, namely, the COVID-19 pandemic, systemic bias and racism in our government and society as a whole, and the unemployment crisis affecting our nation as a consequence of COVID-19 and a republican senate that truly did not give a shit about people. Hopefully cooperation is the order of the day as that is what it is going to take to end each of these inter-related emergent threats that easily could return us to chaos.

This episode of Tales From The Drop Box is a brief soundtrack to a new era filled with hope for a better tomorrow, starting today.

Tales From The Drop Box Episode 183 (2020-31) The Vote Trump Out Episode (We Still Have An Out Of Control Pandemic And It Is Getting F_ing Worse)

It is the day before the U.S. national election and these notes are short for a reason. They are designed to implore you to get out and vote to end the suffering of millions of Americans caused by a corrupt lying monster that is our current president. End the chaos, the suffering, the corruption, the lunacy and cult of personality. End the ridiculous abject failure of a COVID-19 non response. Vote the Republican bootlickers out as well. We need a fresh start to our democracy where there is less divisiveness, where Black Lives do matter, where issues that impact our citizens are taken seriously by our leaders, where society exists that balance individual freedoms against the objectives of a free society. Where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, where synchronicity exists. When it is not about the I or them but about the we – we the people of the United States of America. If I can’t change your mind then no one will. This election is solely about the will of a country’s citizens to unseat a corrupt demagogue. Make voting your priority.

But I digress. Get out and vote. In this election your vote truly does count. So, listen to this podcast while you wait in line to preserve what is left of our democracy.

Just For Fun Concerts EP 2018-09 (Episode 110)

I am back with a new episode after a short break as the regular day job is keeping my pretty busy. However, I have also spent some quality time listening to new music. This episode should satisfy both regular listeners and any new listeners who might stumble upon this episode at some point with about an hour to spare listening to some terrific tunes. This episode is pretty pastoral and as you can probably tell from the track list below there is nothing related to Trump-Stormy-Syria-Cohen or politics. There is also one track by Liam Gallagher, former singer from Oasis who put out surprisingly excellent album towards the end of last year. There is one song that has the F-word in the title and several uses in the song, but I believe at this point in our democracy, nothing is shocking (Jane’s Addiction reference!)

Tales From The Drop Box Episode 110 is a mellow but truly sweet and the tracks cover a broader musical range – collecting a few tracks from last year with some newish released tracks. Every once in a while, throwing a change-up to the lineup is good. A couple of gems in here for sure. I had never heard the Archive track before and it is from an album that originally came out in 2004. The throwback isn’t really from that far back either as Anti-Flag released “We’ve Got His Gun” on the first A-F Records LP back in 1998.

So, sit back, crank it up, and enjoy …. until we meet again.

Here is what you’ll find in Episode #110:

  1. Soccer Mommy – “Last Girl” (Clean)
  2. Splashh – “Closer” (Waiting A Lifetime)
  3. Pale Lights – “Mother Cries” (The Stars Seemed Brighter)
  4. Vundabar – “Acetone” (Smell Smoke)
  5. Young Statues – “Redmouth” (Amarillo)
  6. Lost Film – “I Forget” (Broken Spectre)
  7. Liam Gallagher – “I Never Wanna Be like You” (As You Were)
  8. Archive – “Fuck U” (Noise)
  9. Dirty Fences – “Blue Screen” (Goodbye Love)
  10. Hurry – “Read Between The Lines” (Every Little Thought)
  11. Frigs – “Chest” (Basic Behavior)
  12. Voidz – “Pyramid Of Bones” (Virtue)
  13. Stephen Clair And The Pushbacks – “Typing Tipsy” (Push Back)
  14. Anti-Flag – “We’ve Got His Gun” (The System Doesn’t Work For You)
  15. Blush – “Baby Don’t Blush” (Blush)

Dad keeps a gun in the drawer in his room my best friend is coming over to play
yeah yeah we’ve got his gun . . . There’s a look on your face I would like to knock out see the sin in your grin and the shape of your mouth all I want is to see you in terrible pain . . .
